DAVIDSON, N.C. – Malcolm McCabe netted his first career goals to lead Davidson to a 3-0 victory over Duquesne in Atlantic 10 men's soccer action, Wednesday evening at Alumni Stadium.

The clean sheet was the second straight for the Wildcats as they improve to 7-4-1 overall and 2-2-0 in league play.

Shortly after the 'Cats were forced to play a man down, McCabe made it a two-goal game when he tracked down a Quinn Dudek shot and found the open net.

McCabe's second score of the night was a blast from the top of the box off an assist from Zach Marks, following a short corner.

Matt Reinikka put Davidson up 1-0 at the 21:26 mark with a successful penalty kick.

Davidson finished with a 17-10 advantage in shots, including a 13-5 margin after intermission.

Scott Rissler led both keepers with four saves for Duquesne (3-9-1, 1-3-0 A-10), while Sam Bissett recorded his third shutout of 2017.

Up Next
Davidson will conclude its brief homestand with a 6 p.m. contest against league-foe Rhode Island Saturday evening.

Postgame Comments from Head Coach Matt Spear
"The final score makes it look to be a comfortable win, but we had to work for it. A really muggy night and a physical, direct-style opponent required us to play about 20 guys."

"One of my favorite parts was at the end when all seven of our healthy seniors were on the pitch seeing the victory through the final whistle."

"Zach Marks showed his grit and fitness, and triggered Malcom's late goal with an excellent assist. And it was awesome to get Nathan Marder on the field for extended minutes. Nate has had a long recovery from injury and just this week has his body turned a corner."

"The start of the game was a bit cagey like conference games can be. Getting the first goal was a boost that really turned the corner for us."

"The guys handled playing a man down very well. They dug in and actually lifted their qualities."

"When Malcolm went into the match in our altered formation, I told him that often teams get great scoring chances in transition playing a man down. And that's how it played out."

"Quinn worked hard down the right flank and banged a hard shot for Malcolm to tap it in. Then Malcolm capped it with a perfect finish on the final goal."
