Wildcats Secure First A-10 Win, Down Mason 5-2 on Road

FAIRFAX, Va. — Five Wildcats kept their winning streaks intact and Davidson won its Atlantic 10 opener with a 5-2 road victory at George Mason Saturday evening at Montclair Country Club.
Davidson won its third straight, and sixth match in the past seven overall, to move to 6-2 on the season. Mason fell to 1-7 overall and 0-3 in league matches.
The Wildcats cruised to wins of 6-2, 6-1 and 6-4 in doubles action to claim the first team point. It was second match in a row they swept all three positions.
Jenna Brunner and Gabrielle Centenari won their third straight at No. 3, while Anna Catharine Feaster and Ally Sexton picked up their team-leading fourth doubles win and third victory in a row as well. Elaina Cummer and partner Sarah Stein won their third match on the eason at the top doubles spot.
The trio of Feaster, Ava Todd and Cummer all won their third straight matches, and sixth overall, at the top three singles slots to help the Wildcats seal up the match win. Feaster picked up an easy 6-2, 6-1 decision at the top spot, while Tood won 6-2, 7-5 and the senior Cummer took a 7-5, 6-0 decision at No. 3.
Fresh off being named the league's rookie of the week on Tuesday, Centenari won a three-set battle at No. 4 for the final team point. She won the first set, 6-3, before falling 6-2 in the next set to force a full third set. The first-year finished out strong and tallied a 6-2 win to push her record to 4-3 on the year at No. 4.
Davidson wraps up its time in the Washington, D.C., area by playing at George Washington tomorrow in another A-10 match.
