CHARLESTON, S.C. — In a first-time matchup between Davidson and Massachusetts in women's tennis, the Wildcats came out on the short end as they fell 4-3 to the Minutewomen Friday afternoon in Charleston, S.C.

The 'Cats fell to 8-5 overall and 3-2 in Atlantic 10 play, while UMass won its fifth match in the past six to move to 9-4 overall and remained pefect in league action at 3-0.

The doubles point proved to be the difference as UMass took all three spots by the scores of 8-6, 8-2 and 8-1. The duo of Anna Catharine Feaster and Ally Sexton saw their three-match win streak halted with the 8-2 setback at No. 2.

Davidson came back to win the first three singles positions, but the Minutewomen captured wins at the other three spots to secure the team victory. Leading the way was freshman Ava Todd, who registered her 12th straight singles win. She moved up a spot to No. 3 for the first time this year and cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 decision to run her record to a team-best 12-1.

At No. 1, Elaina Cummer regrouped from a 6-4 first-set defeat to win 6-3 and 6-2 in the next two sets. The junior ran her record to 7-6, snapping a personal three-match losing streak.

Feaster gave the Wildcats their third team point when she took home her first three set match win of the year. The freshman split her first two sets, 6-1 and 2-6, before bouncing back to nail down her ninth win of the season with a 6-2 third set victory. Â

Senior Blake Nickles saw her first official match action of the season, playing at No. 6 singles and teaming with Todd at No. 3 doubles.
