DAVIDSON, N.C. — Led by senior Brites Moniz-Soares, the Davidson women's tennis team halted their six-match losing streak with a solid 5-2 win at home against Western Carolina Saturday afternoon in Southern Conference play at the Covington Tennis Courts.

Moniz-Soares again went 2-0 on the day after picking up a pair of wins the day before at Charlotte. The Wildcats (7-15, 2-5 SoCon) also continued their dominance of WCU (1-14-1, 0-6 SoCon) in the all-time series, moving to 26-1 since 1982.

For the fourth time this year, Davidson won all three doubles positions to gain an early 1-0 lead in team points. The pair of Moniz-Soares and Elaina Cummer pushed their win streak to three in a row with an 8-6 win. They improved to a team-best 10-9 at No. 1 doubles.

The duo of Jenna Brunner and Nisha Crouser cruised to their third win of the season with an impressive 8-1 decision, while Tamara Hill and Blake Nickles evened their record at 2-2 with an 8-6 win at No. 3.

The senior Moniz-Soares led the way in singles action, taking home a three-setter for her third straight win, and Davidson went on to win four of the six matches for the team victory. The Wildcats' No. 1 singles player, Moniz-Soares, regrouped after falling 6-3 in the first set to win a tie-breaker in the second set and then seal up the match with a 6-4 decision in the third set. She moved to a team-leading 12-9 on the year.

Cummer ran her record to 8-14 with a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 2, while Brunner needed a third set to seal up her 10th victory of the season. The freshman won the first set at No. 4 singles, 6-2, but dropped a 7-5 decision in the second set. Brunner came back strong in the final set with a 6-1 win.

Scoring the final team point for Davidson was Hill, who took care of her opponent in two sets with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles for her third victory of the season.

Davidson goes back on the road for a 3 p.m. SoCon-match at Furman, April 10.
