DAVIDSON, N.C. — Playing its second of a three-game homestand, Davidson was unable to halt Elon's win streak as it fell 7-0 to the Phoenix Saturday afternoon at the Covington Tennis Courts in Southern Conference women's tennis.

Elon pushed its winning streak to eight straight, moving to 8-4 and earned its second league win to go to 2-0. Davidson fell for the second match in a row, dropping to 6-11 overall and 1-2 in SoCon action.

Elania Cummer and Brites Moniz-Soares came the closest to earning a doubles win at No. 1, dropping an 8-6 decision. The Phoenix took the other two spots 8-2 and 8-3 for a 1-0 lead in team points.

Moniz-Soares pushed Elon's Jordan Johnston to a first-set tie-breaker at No. 1, but fell 8-6 in the tie-breaker to drop the first set. She then was topped 6-3 in the next set to give Johnston the win.

At No. 5, freshman Jenna Brunner combined to win eight games in two sets, but it was not enough in falling 6-4, 6-4. The first-year player fell to 9-6 on the season, 8-5 when playing at the No. 5 spot.

Elon wrapped up the team win with victories at the other four singles slots.

The Wildcats will wrap up their three-match homestand with a SoCon match Sunday at 1 p.m. vs. Samford.
