DAVIDSON, N.C. – Tyler Kalinoski led four Davidson scorers in double-figures with 17 points and the Wildcats held Niagara to 34.5 percent shooting to earn their sixth consecutive victory, 78-58, in non-conference basketball action Saturday evening in John M. Belk Arena.

Davidson (8-1), which matches its best start (2008-09) under Bob McKillop, shot 53.8 percent from floor and drilled 10-of-24 from behind the 3-point line.

In addition to leading the Wildcats in points, Kalinoski also led in rebounds (7) and assists (6). Jack Gibbs added 11 points and a game-high three steals, while Jordan Barham and Oskar Michelsen chipped in 10 points each off the bench.

Davidson raced out to a 22-6 advantage, holding Niagara scoreless through the first 5 minutes, 48 seconds of the game, and pushed the margin to 20 late in the opening half before going to the break up, 40-22.

Ramone Snowden paced Niagara (1-6) with 14 points, while Wesley Myers and Emile Blackman contributed 12 and 11, respectively.

After the Purple Eagles used an 11-1 run to cut the deficit to 52-40 with 9:45 to play, the Wildcats responded with a 14-3 spurt to put the game out of reach. Davidson extended its lead to as many as 24 on separate occasions late in the contest.

The Wildcats finished with a 37-31 edge on the glass.

Davidson will enjoy a week break for exams before returning to the hardwood Saturday, Dec. 20 with a 4 p.m. tip at College of Charleston.
