DAVIDSON, N.C. – College of Charleston took its first lead in the seventh inning and added five runs in the eighth to defeat Davidson, 10-5, in Southern Conference baseball action Friday evening at Wilson Field.

Davidson (9-23, 4-12 SoCon) matched a season high with three home runs, as RHP/DH Ryan Lowe (3-5) hit his third of the season and freshman Lee Miller hit his fifth and sixth of the season. Miller's second homer of the game gave the Wildcats a 4-3 lead after six innings, but College of Charleston (19-14, 10-5 SoCon) had taken advantage of three errors to stay in the game early and scored a combined seven runs in the seventh and eighth innings.

Brandon Murray who drove in four runs on a 2-for-4 day at the plate, blasted a two-run home run in the seventh to put the Cougars ahead, 5-4, and then the Cougars put the game out of reach in the eighth scoring on a wild pitch, an RBI-single by shortstop Gunnar Heidt (1-for-4), another wild pitch, an RBI-groundout by Murray and an RBI-double by first baseman Carl Wise (3-for-5). For the game, CofC right fielder Cody Martin also went 3-for-5, and second baseman Blake Butler went 3-for-6 and scored three runs.

For Davidson, Miller finished the game going 3-for-4, while Lowe went 2-for-4 with two RBI at the dish and worked 6 1/3 innings on the mound, allowing five runs (two earned) on eight hits and two walks while striking out four. Second baseman Sam Foy also enjoyed a multi-hit game, going 3-for-5 with a run and RBI.

Lowe's home run in the second inning was the first hit of the game and gave Davidson a 1-0 lead, but the Cougars tied the game on a fielding error in the top of the fourth inning, and then went ahead briefly in the fifth. Heidt led off the fourth with a walk and then stole second base, from which he scored on a fielding error on a ball put in play by Murray. The Cougars loaded the bases but were unable to add any more runs in the frame, but Murray hit an RBI-single in the fifth. The lead was short lived as Miller hit a solo shot in the bottom of the fifth and first baseman Andrew Barna drove in another run on a fielder's choice for a 3-2 Davidson advantage.

CofC tied the game again in the sixth on another fielding error, but Miller's second homer of the game – this time to centerfield – put Davidson back up, 4-3. The Cougars took a 10-4 lead though in the seventh and eighth innings and an RBI-single by Foy in the bottom of the eighth was the last scoring play.

LHP Player Loving (1-1) earned the win after entering the game in the sixth inning and allowing just one run in 2 1/3 innings of work.

Davidson and College of Charleston will continue the series Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
