FARMVILLE, Va. – It took just over 83 minutes for the Longwood Lancers to hand the Davidson field hockey team its first NorPac loss of the season, as the Wildcats fell to the Lancers 1-0 in overtime on Saturday afternoon.

The Wildcats move to 7-9 on the season with the loss and are now 4-1 in conference play. It was the third consecutive contest between the Lancers and the 'Cats that went to overtime. Longwood took a 1-0 double overtime win in the NorPac tournament last season, while Davidson took a 3-2 shootout victory earlier this season.

Stacey de Grandhomme notched the game winner 13 minutes into the extra period to give the Lancers the win. The Lancers are 5-12 on the season and 4-2 in NorPac games.

Finley Amato, Melissa Funsten and Danielle King each had a shot on goal for the 'Cats, but were unable to find the back of the net. Funsten, Annie Evans and Tyler McFayden led the squad with two shots apiece as the Lancers outshot the Wildcats 16-10.

Davidson goalkeeper Sarah Fisher made nine stops in the contest.

Funsten and Sara French each had a shot early in the first half off the Wildcats' first penalty corner of the contest, but neither could get past Longwood keeper Meg Mitchell.  Amato had her first attempt of the game 12 minutes it, but Mitchell again came up with the stop. Anna Davis shot wide and King had her attempt saved to end the half as neither team got on the scoreboard.

The Lancers got off a trio of shots early in the second half, but Fisher came up with a save while the other two went wide. She would come up with four more saves in a three-minute span midway through the half to keep the Lancers from taking the lead, forcing the extra period.

A shot by Evans was blocked early in overtime, while Fisher came up with a pair of saves down the other end. Thirteen minutes into the action, Jennifer Burris and Jessica Diaz would send a penalty corner over to de Grandhomme, who knocked it in to end the game and give the Lancers the 1-0 victory.

The Wildcats will head to Lynchburg, Va., on Sunday for their final away game of the regular season when they face Liberty in a noon match up.
