Today's Game
• Davidson finishes out the 2011 season at home with a 1 p.m. PFL contest against Valparaiso.
• The Wildcats and Crusaders have not played since 2008, when Valparaiso topped Davidson 35-29 in overtime at Brown Field.
• The 'Cats are coming off a 28-24 victory over Morehead State last Saturday, which broke a six-game losing skid.
• Wildcat quarterback Jonathan Carkhuff has set school single-season records in passing yards (2,955) and completions (314). He ranks first in the FCS in completions (31.4/gm) and seventh in yards (295.5/gm).
• Receiver Lanny Funsten has tied the school record with 87 receptions this season. He shares the mark with Mike Mikolayunas, who had 87 catches in 1970.
• Funsten is 68 yards from becoming the third player in school history to record 1,000 in a season and 197 away from breaking the school record. He ranks third in the FCS in receptions (8.70/gm) and 13th in yards (93.20/gm).
• The Wildcats are 14-14 in Richardson Stadium in their last 28 contests. The 'Cats are 3-2 at home this season.
• The Wildcats own a 14-15 all-time mark in conference games at Richardson Stadium.
• Davidson is 19-26 in its last 45 PFL contests and owns a 25-35 all-time PFL record.
• Valparaiso broke a 29-game losing skid, dating back to 2009, with a 34-31 home win over Campbell on Senior Day last Saturday.
• The 'Cats were picked ninth in the PFL preseason poll while Valparaiso was picked 10th.

Series Record
• Davidson leads the all-time series, which began in 2001, 5-1.
• The 'Cats are 2-0 against Valparaiso in Richardson Stadium.
• Valparaiso's Anthony Curry picked off a Ryan Alexander pass in overtime to preserve a 35-29 victory over Davidson at Brown Field in the last meeting, Oct. 11, 2008.
• On 3rd-and-8 from the 10-yard line, Alexander overthrew Myles Potter on a wide receiver screen pass, and the ball wound up in the arms of Curry.
• The Crusaders got the ball first in the extra session, and Jake Riedel rushed in the end zone from two yards out. David Hamaker missed the point after, leaving the door open for the Wildcats.
• Valpo dedicated its new turf field before the game and broke it in by rushing for 351 yards, including 244 in the second stanza to overcome a 21-6 halftime deficit by scoring 23 straight points.
• With Davidson trailing 29-21, Kenny Mantuo scored a touchdown on a 2-yard run. Forced to go for the two-point conversion, Alexander found Kirk Konert in the end zone to tie the game with 1:47 remaining.
• The 'Cats converted two fourth downs during the game-tying drive. Facing 4th-and-7, Alexander bought time and found Konert in the middle of the field for a 20-yard gain. Then on 4th-and-3 from the 12, Alexander hit Potter for a 10-yard gain.
• The Crusaders drove down to Davidson the 26-yard line after an 11-yard pass completion on third down, but on 4th-and-1 with the clock running out, Valpo could not get its kicking unit on the field in time for what would have been a 44-yard game-winning field goal try.
• Davidson scored on three of its first four possessions of the game, but the Crusaders stormed back and dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball in the second frame. Valpo threw just five passes in the half, completing two. Meanwhile, the Crusader defense gave up 41 rushing yards.

Leftovers from Morehead State
• The victory broke a six-game losing skid for Davidson.
• Gorman has rushed for 345 yards in the last three weeks.
• Davidson's 62 pass attempts were three off the school mark.

Claw Marks
Jonathan Carkhuff and Lanny Funsten set a school record with a 99-yard TD pass and catch vs. Johnson C. Smith Sept. 24. The play got a mention in the Nov. 4  “Flem File,” an NFL column by David Fleming on ESPN.com. Fleming called it the best football play he's seen so far this season.
• Funsten's 195 receiving yards vs. JCSU was the most for a Wildcat since Alvin Atkinson had 220 vs. Furman in 1979.
Toms Bernhards-Callahan's 94-yard punt return for touchdown against Marist Oct. 8, equaled the school record, set by George Hannen against Wofford in 1969.
• During head coach Tripp Merritt's tenure, the Wildcats are 21-6 when winning the turnover battle.
• Merritt has moved into fifth place on Davidson's all-time win chart (29). He is six away from fourth place, his former mentor, Tim Landis.
• Davidson is 5-5 on the opening coin toss; the 'Cats received the opening kickoff six times.
• Davidson has now lost its last four overtime games after falling 26-20 to Campbell in three sessions Oct. 29.
• Stetson and Mercer will join the PFL, beginning in the 2013 season.
