DAVIDSON, N.C. – Junior Samantha Galainena (Burr Ridge, Ill.) won her eighth singles match in a row and the Davidson women's tennis team gave their three seniors a great send off in their final home match by earning a 6-1 Southern Conference win over Chattanooga on Friday afternoon at the Covington Tennis Courts.

The Wildcats continued her hot-play in the latter part of the season, winning their second in a row and eighth in the past 10 matches to improve to 15-6 overall and 7-2 in league play. The 15 wins marks the sixth time in the last seven years the 'Cats have reached that mark. They also finished out their home schedule with a 7-4 record, matching last year's win total.

Chattanooga fell to 3-7 in SoCon play and 9-12 overall. In the last six meetings, Davidson has taken wins in all of them and hold a 13-7 all-time record vs. the Mocs.

Galainena took home a 6-2 6-4 win over Beata Knizat at No. 6 singles, one of five 'Cats to take home a singles win. The junior has the team's longest win streak this year, surpass the seven straight set by Stephani Synn earlier this season. Galainena is tied with Synn at 15 singles wins and she is 7-2 in SoCon matches.

The home match was the final one for the senior trio of Virginia Berry (Spartanburg, S.C.), Teresa Wang (Charlotte, N.C.) and Ali Gores (Charlotte, N.C.). The trio each earned at least a win in singles or doubles play.

Berry and Wang started the match with a solid 8-2 decision at No. 1 doubles for their 12th win of the season. Berry then went on to earn a super tiebreaker win over Jenna Nurik at No. 1 singles after the match had been decided. Berry forced the tiebreaker by earning a win in the second set.

Wang was forced to retire in her match, but her teammates picked her up with wins coming at No. 3-6 singles. The duo of Synn and Alison Rauh (Trier, Germany) had a perfect day, picking up an 8-6 victory at No. 2 doubles to seal that point and then tallied straight set singles wins.

Synn rolled to her 15th win to only two defeats, best winning percentage in the SoCon, by picking up a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Emily Hangstefer at No. 3. Synn, who trailed 4-3 in the second set before rattling off three straight game wins, improved to 7-1 at the No. 3 position and remained unbeaten in league matches at 8-0.

Rauh pushed her singles mark to 11-10 (6-3 SoCon) with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph at No. 4.

The Wildcats last senior, Ali Gores (Charlotte, N.C.), picked up her fourth straight win by charging back after falling in the first set, 6-3. She earned 6-4, 6-4 wins in the next two sets to run her singles record to 10-9, the sixth Wildcat this year to clip the 10-win mark.

Davidson closes out the regular season with a 1 p.m. match against SoCon-foe Furman in Greenville, S.C. tomorrow, Apr. 17.
