Layup Line
• The Wildcats start a two-game road swing at the top two teams of the Southern Conference North Division by traveling to Appalachian State Thursday night.
• Western Carolina hosts Davidson Saturday night. Both teams posted wins over the Wildcats in Belk Arena in January.
• Thursday's game against the Mountaineers will be Davidson's third contest in the last 13 days.
• Davidson has won four in a row and 10 of its last 14 games overall.
• The Wildcats played the first contest of each of their two-game series against SoCon South Division opponents on the road and went 3-2.
• After last Saturday's 84-74 win over Georgia Southern, the 'Cats are 6-2 against South Division foes.
• Following Saturday's game against the Catamounts, Davidson will play three of its final five regular-season games at home. All remaining games are SoCon contests.
• The 'Cats are 3-4 in true road games this season and 3-2 in SoCon road games.
• Davidson caps the regular season by playing five games in 11 days.
• The Mountaineers sit atop the SoCon North Division standings with an 8-4 record.
• App. State has won two in a row and four of its last six. The Mountaineers are 8-3 overall at home and 3-2 in SoCon games.
• Donald Sims is second in the league in scoring, averaging 19.2 points a game, and leads the nation in free-throw shooting at 95.1 percent (116-122).
• Kellen Brand is averaging 10.1 points a game, while Isaac Butts is averaging 8.5 points and eight rebounds a contest.
• The Mountaineers also lead the SoCon in field goal percentage and rebounding margin.
Series History
• Davidson leads the all-time series 37-30, but Appalachian State posted a 78-68 victory in the season's first meeting.
• The series began with a 52-49 Wildcat victory in the 1946-47 season.
• The 'Cats are 15-17 on the road, 6-1 at the Holmes Center and 21-13 against Appalachian State under Bob McKillop.
• Donald Sims scored a career-high 44 points, and Appalachian State held Davidson to two field goals in the last six minutes of the game to defeat the Wildcats 78-68 in the first contest.
• Sims was 13-for-19 from the field, 5-for-7 from 3-point range and 13-for-13 from the free-throw line. His point total set a new Belk Arena record and was also the second-most individual points against Davidson in school history, besting the 43 points NC State's David Thompson netted Dec. 21, 1974.
• The Wildcats had four scorers in double figures, led by JP Kuhlman with 18 points. Will Archambault posted 14, while Steve Rossiter and Brendan McKillop each scored 10.
• Isaac Butts tallied 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Mountaineers, and Kellen Brand finished with 12 points.
• After both teams made big runs in the first half, the second frame was back and forth with the Mountaineers gaining small leads and Davidson fighting back to even the score. After three ties, the 'Cats took a 62-61 lead, their first since late in the first half, when Rossiter was fouled converting a layup with 6:58 remaining.
• It was the last points the 'Cats would get for the next 4:40, and Sims scored nine in a 10-point Mountaineer run that put App. State back on top 71-62.
Leftovers from Georgia Southern
• Archambault fouled out in the contest, leaving the senior one point shy of 1,000 for his career.
• It was “Paint It Red,” and red t-shirts were sold to benefit Kicks from 'Cats – The Lagos Project, an effort to build a school in Lagos Nigeria.
• Archambault and Bryant Barr are now three games played from tying the school career record, held by Andrew Lovedale (130).
• Davidson is now 6-2 against SoCon South Division opponents.
Claw Marks
• Senior Will Archambault is a point away from becoming the 38th Davidson player to score 1,000 in his career.
• Archambault also needs 82 rebounds for 500 career caroms.
• Bryant Barr needs 17 points to reach 700 for his career.
• Davidson coach Bob McKillop is 21 wins shy of his 400th career victory.
• With 127 career games played, Will Archambault and Bryant Barr are both three games away from the school record, set by Andrew Lovedale 2005-09.
• The Wildcats have hit a triple in 498 straight games.
• Brendan McKillop and JP?Kuhlman each have a chance to record 100-plus assists this season. That's happened just twice during the Bob McKillop era. Jason Richards (293) and Stephen Curry (104) did it in 2007-08 and Jason Zimmerman (135) and Chris Alpert (134) did it in 1992-93.
• Davidson has hit 13 or more 3-pointers in five games this season (Fredonia State, The Citadel, Gonzaga, TCNJ, Penn).
• Davidson lost 91-88 to Cornell in overtime at the Holiday Festival in Madison Square Garden Dec. 20. It was the 'Cats' first overtime game since an 85-81 double-overtime loss at Charlotte Nov. 30, 2005.
• The 'Cats played their first overtime game in Belk Arena since 2005 against The Citadel Jan. 30, and posted a 67-63 win.
• Davidson's 61-52 victory over Hofstra Dec. 21, was the first time Wildcat coach Bob McKillop has coached against his alma mater.
• The Wildcats played their first four games away from home. It's the first time they have started a season with four road games since 2000-01.
• It's the latest Davidson has opened its home schedule since the 2002-03 campaign, when the 'Cats' first home game was Nov. 30 against Washington & Lee.
