Wildcats Can Clinch NorPac East Title Saturday at Longwood

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Standing at 3-0 in the NorPac East Division, a win over Longwood Saturday would give the Davidson field hockey team their first division championship since 2003 and the No. 1 seed for the NorPac Conference Tournament, which Davidson will host November 4-6 at Belk Turf Field.

Longwood is currently second in the division with a 2-2 record, while Radford and Appalachian State trail at 2-3 and 1-3, respectively. Davidson has played each team once so far this season, earning wins in all three contests. With a total of six division games scheduled for each team, a Wildcat win over Longwood Saturday would mean Davidson could finish no worse than 4-2 in the division. That would be good enough for first as the rest of the teams would all have at least three losses.

Just four NorPac East matches remain, with Davidson competing in three. In addition to Saturday's match, Davidson will conclude the regular season with home contests Friday, October 29 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, October 31 at 2 p.m. against Radford and Appalachian State, respectively. Longwood will host Appalachian State Saturday, Oct. 30.

If Davidson loses to Longwood, they can still claim the No. 1 seed if they win their remaining games and finish at 5-1. Further losses by Davidson would complicate the picture as factors such as head-to-head matchups against division opponents and goal differential would come into play.

Davidson tied Appalachian State for the 2003 title, but was awarded the No. 1 seed in the NorPac tournament by virtue of a tiebreaker.

Saturday's match at Longwood is set to start at 12 p.m.
