DAVIDSON, N.C. -- The Davidson Wildcats and the Appalachian State Mountaineers split a double-header Sunday, with the Wildcats earning a 9-8 win on a walkoff home run by Chase FitzPatrick in the completion of Saturday's suspended game and the Mountaineers taking the nightcap,15-5.

Davidson is now 10-11 overall and 5-4 in Southern Conference action, while Appalachian moves to 9-15 overall and 3-10 in league play.

Rain affected the series all weekend, canceling Friday's game and delaying the start, and then the conclusion, of Saturday's game.

With the score tied at two, Saturday's game was suspended until the following afternoon. The Wildcats scored two runs in the bottom of the first on a double by sophomore first baseman Danny Weiss, driving home senior shortstop Zach Kayne and sophomore right fielder Sam Payne.

Junior Thomas Middour pitched four innings for Davidson, giving up two runs while striking out five Mountaineer batters.

The teams concluded the game Saturday afternoon, picking up in the top of the fourth. The Wildcats got off to a fast start, putting up five runs on four hits to take a 7-2 lead.

Freshman third baseman Calvin Sigelbaum was hit by a pitch to open the frame and moved around to second on a one-out single by Payne. Brady's single into center field scored Sigelbaum, and Weiss cleared the bases with a three-run shot into left field. On a blustery day at Wilson Field, freshman left fielder Drew Gadaire added another run on a ball that carried over the right field wall.

The Mountaineers added three runs in the top of the sixth to close the gap. Chris Lamb got a fly out to start, but got into trouble, allowing a base hit and two walks to load the bases. Mac Hunter entered in relief and walked in a run, and a ground-rule double by Wes Hobson scored two more.

FitzPatrick was hit by a pitch to start the seventh inning and scored when Brady followed with a double up the middle, but Appalachian tied the score with three more runs in the top of the eighth on a pair of home runs. The Mountaineers didn't threaten in the ninth, and FitzPatrick's eighth home run of the season lifted the 'Cats to a 9-8 victory.

Matt Webb (2-0) earned the victory, allowing three runs on three hits with three strikeouts in two innings. For the Mountaineers, Zach Quate (0-1) took the loss, allowing the lone home run in 1 1/3 innings.

Appalachian State scored in six of the first seven innings, including a six-run seventh, to take a 15-5 win in the second game. Chris Kennedy (1-3) took the loss for the 'Cats, allowing four runs on six hits in three innings.

Aubrey Edens picked up the win, scattering four hits for four runs in six innings with five strikeouts. Isaac Harrow was a perfect 5-for-5, while Chris Alessandria was 3-for-5 with five RBI.

The Wildcats will return to travel to No.5/6 North Carolina for a 6 p.m. Tuesday matchup.
