Davidson Makes it Three In Row, Lacrosse Wins 6-5 Over Robert Morris

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. –– Davidson ran its season-high win streak to three straight with its second 6-5 win in a row when it took the one-goal decision over Robert Morris on Friday afternoon in women's lacrosse action.
The Wildcats, winners of eight of their past 11 games dating back to last season's five-game winning streak to finish out the year, improved to 4-2 on the year. RMU dropped its third in a row to fall to 1-3.
Sophomore Haley Cook and junior Callie Seymour led the Wildcats with two goals each and senior goalie Lauren Johnson tallied her fourth win of the season between the pipes with 12 saves.
The Colonials grabbed a two-goal lead to start the game with two strikes in the first two minutes of the contest.
Cook put the 'Cats on the board with one of her two goals on the afternoon at the 23:06 mark in the first half, but RMU responded with a free-position goal to take a 3-1 advantage with 19:55 remaining in the half.
Davidson then took charge by going on a four-goal run to close out the first half and grab a 5-3 lead heading into halftime. Cook along with fellow sophomore Jen Crawford and the junior tandem of Seymour and Becky Horton each tallied a goal in the run, with senior Emily Diefendorf assisting on the final goal of the half at the 5:35 mark.
Seymour added one more goal, the eventual game-winner, with a strike in the 21st minute to push the Wildcat lead out to three, 6-3.
The 'Cats defense took care of the rest by shutting out the Colonials, who had cut the lead to one, 6-5, in the final 17 minutes of the contest, with Johnson pocketing five of her 12 saves in the second period to finish off the 6-5 win. Defensively, Davidson allowed just one free-position shot all game and forced a total of 18 turnovers.
RMU was led by Jenn Collins' two goals and three other Colonials scored single goals.
Davidson wraps up its two-game road trip with a 12 p..m. contest at Duquesne on Sunday, Mar. 9.
