Cats Score Season-High 20 Goals in Win over Wagner

DAVIDSON, N.C. –– Six different Wildcats scored multiple goals in leading the Davidson women's lacrosse team to a season-high 20 goals in defeating Wagner by the count of 20-5 on Monday afternoon at Richardson Stadium. The 20 goals were the most scored for Davidson since it registered 22 in a home win over Howard on April 4, 2006.
Davidson improved to 5-3 on the year, while Wagner remained winless at 0-5. The win was the Wildcats second-ever against the Seahawks as both teams last met each other in 2002.
The Wildcats set numerous season highs as nine players in all scored and all 20 players on the roster saw action in the contest. Besides the season-high 20 goals, they set team bests in points (26), assists (6), shots (40) and shots on goal (31). Defensively, the five goals allowed were a season-low as were the 13 shots allowed by Wagner.
Sophomore Jen Crawford (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) led the Wildcat attack with a season-high five goals to push her total on the year to a team-best 21, which sets a new personal-high. Her five scores also tied a personal-best in a single game.
Senior Emily Diefendorf (Laurel Hollow, N.Y.) followed with four goals and set the offensive tone early when she opened the contest with three straight scores for a natural hat trick in the first two minutes of action.
After fellow senior Sarah Walter (Queenstown, Md.) tallied her fifth score of the season at the 26:32 mark, Diefendorf added her fourth goal and Crawford tallied the first of her five at the 24:15 mark to give the Wildcats a commanding 6-0 lead.
Teri Noll of Wagner broke up the shutout, but Davidson added four more goals by four different 'Cats and led at halftime, 10-2. Junior Becky Horton (Walnut Creek, Calif.) scored and assisted on a goal during the four-goal run.
Davidson matched its first-half output, by putting 10 shots in the back of the net with Crawford scoring four of those goals.
Junior Jennifer Drew Lindsey (Davidson, N.C.) added two goals in the second half, while sophomore Haley Cook (Darien, Conn.) added a goal and assist to finish her afternoon with five points. She recorded a team season-high three assists to go along with her two goals.
Closing out the scoring for Davidson was seniors Callie Seymour (2 goals), Emily Palmer (1) and Kate McDonald (1). Seymour's two scores gives her six goals in the past three contests.
Senior Laura Johnson (Baldwin, Md.) and Michelle Pav (Golden, Colo.) recorded four saves each in goal for Davidson.
For the Seahawks, Cara Gonzalez led the offensive attack with two goals, while Alex Johnston and Amy Jones combined for 11 saves between the pipes.
