BERKELY, Calif - After finding themselves in a 2-2 tie with Pacific at halftime, the Davidson field hockey team allowed a pair of second-half scores on their way to a 4-2 defeat by the Tigers Sunday afternoon in neutral site NorPac action in Berkeley, Calif.

Sophomore Courtney Tobe put the Wildcats up early, when just over three minutes into the game, she gathered a rebounded shot from teammate Clare Perry on the left side of the goal and put her strike in the back of the net to give Davidson a 1-0 lead. It was Tobe's second goal of the season, putting her in a tie for the third-highest mark on the team.

Six minutes later, Pacific knotted up the score when Katy McDonough tipped a shot in from the right side of the cage. The Tigers then went up by a 2-1 margin at the 28:05 mark of the first half on a pass and shot from the middle of the penalty circle for a lead that would turn out to be short-lived.

Showing an ability to bounce back from an apparent setback, the 'Cats answered just three minutes after they fell behind, bringing the score back even courtesy of Perry's third goal of the year, which came on a penalty corner where Perry received a pass from freshman Kathelijn van der Ven and fired a shot past the Pacific goalkeeper and into the net. For van der Ven, it was her team-leading fourth assist of the season, and put her in second place on the squad with eight total points.

The two teams went into the half with the score 2-2, where it would stay until the 51st minute when Pacific put away what would end up being the game-winning goal, via the second pass of a penalty corner that was tipped in past Davidson goalkeeper Christa Goeke. The Tigers then found the net for an insurance score with just four minutes remaining to give them their final two-goal advantage.

Despite the loss, Goeke turned in an impressive performance in goal, recording nine saves in the game, her second-highest total this season, and the second-highest by any Davidson keeper in 2008.  Perry led all Wildcats with three shots to go along with her goal, including two that were on target. Senior Britti Himelfarb had a pair of shots on goal as well, with Tobe, van der Ven, and Hannah English each with one scoring attempt for the 'Cats.

Davidson will round out their west-coast road trip this Tuesday when they head to Stanford, Calif. to take on the Stanford Cardinal in another critical NorPac matchup, which is scheduled for 3 p.m. Pacific Time.
