
Davidson Falls in First Game of West-Coast Trip, 9-1, to No. 14 California

BERKLEY, Calif. - The Davidson field hockey team was unable to stop a strong offensive performance from No. 14 California in their first of three games on the west coast, falling 9-1 to the Bears Saturday evening at Maxwell Family Field in Berkley, Calif.
Wildcat senior Tyler Kirkland continued her impressive offensive season, picking up her team-high fourth goal of the year when she capitalized on her only shot of the game, and is now 4-4 on shots needed for goals, having scored on every attempt of the year. She was set up for her strike in the 63rd minute by Lisa Landoe, who collected her first assist of the season.
Cal (9-2, 5-0 NorPac) was led by Ashley Glosz, who came off the bench to record a hat-trick of goals, and added an assist on one of the Bears' scores as well. Glosz had three-consecutive shots find the back of the net, with her final coming on a penalty stroke.
For Davidson (3-10, 0-3 NorPac), Britti Himelfarb led the squad with a pair of shots on the game, with Kirkland and Hannah Lawrence also contributing one scoring attempt. A trio of Wildcat goalkeepers made an appearance between the pipes, with Christa Goeke recording all three of the team's saves. She was joined in goal by starter Brittany Rollek and Mary Clay, who did not allow a goal in her time on the field.
The 'Cats will look to rebound when they face off against the Pacific Tigers on Sunday afternoon in a neutral-site matchup at Maxwell Family Field. The NorPac battle is scheduled for 1 p.m. PT.
