DAVIDSON, N.C. — Senior Catherine Ransone and freshman Courtney Tobe each tallied a hat-trick to lead Davidson to a school-record 12 goals in a 12-1 win for the Wildcats in their makeup game against Catawba on Monday evening at Belk Turf Field. The two teams were washed out due to rain in their first affair on Aug. 30 after played was suspended with 22:06 remaining on the clock in the first half.

The Wildcats got back on the winning track after dropping contests to nationally-ranked UNC and Michigan State their last two games, improving to 7-4. The Indians fell back to .500 with an overall record of 4-4.

The 12 goals broke the record set by the 1988 and 2004 teams when they defeated Salem and Catawba by the scores of 11-0 and 11-2, respectively.

Ransone and Tobe both took advantage of their four shots, scoring three times each as Davidson placed seven individuals in the books with at least one goal. The junior duo of Lauren Calve and Britti Himelfarb set up four of the Wildcats' 12 goals by tallying two assists each in the winning effort.

Senior Ginnie Friddell chipped in with her first two goals of the season, while Ellie Szykowny, Tyler Kirkland, Calve and Jennie Mostellar picked up their first scores of the year.

After played resumed with Davidson leading 4-1, Ransone tallied the fifth goal of the game with 14:54 left on the clock when she received a penalty stoke and made good on it for her third score of the game, and of the half. It moved her season total to five, second-best on the squad.

Kayli Maxwell assisted on Ginnie Friddell's goal on the left side of the goalie box for Davidson's sixth goal of the evening.

Then with 47 seconds left on the clock in the first period, Jen Willis assisted on the Wildcat's next goal when she worked the ball down by the endline near the circle, fired off a shot that was deflected to Kirkland, who etched her name in the scorer's book with a deflection goal. Davidson went into halftime with a six-goal lead, 7-1.

Tobe took care of most of the scoring in the second half, scoring three of Wildcats' remaining five goals. She got the scoring started in the second period when she netted her first score off a rebound from Sarah Addison after a corner.

One score later, she struck again, this time by herself off the endline in the 54th minute.

The freshman then capped off her career-game by scoring the school-record 12th goal in the 67th minute when Calve handled the ball in the middle and sent a nicely placed pass to Tobe on the right side for the easy one-timer and the final score of 12-1.

The Indians lone goal came in first half when Jill Archambault put them on the board in the ninth minute, just before rain suspended play.

Davidson took 35 shots compared to 11 by Catawba, and placed 23 of them on goal. Christa Goeke, Brittany Rollek and Mary Clay all saw action in goal for the Wildcats, registering a combined five saves.

Sarah VanBuskirk played the rest of the resumed game and tallied eight saves, while Heather Kick was credited with one save during her time in goal before the game was suspended on Aug. 30.

Davidson returns to NorPac play with a game against Pacific that will be played in Farmville, Va. on Oct. 5 at 6 p.m. The Wildcats currently are 3-2 in league play.
