Wildcats take down High Point in Season Opener

High Point, N.C. – Madelyn Hayes provided all the offense the Davidson women's soccer team needed Sunday afternoon, netting her first career goal in a 1-0 victory against High Point to kick off the 2026 season at Vert Stadium.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 1-0 record on the year, opening with a victory for the second straight season.
The struck in the 14th minute when Hayes collected a bouncing ball in the High Point penalty area and buried the first shot of the game. In her first start and appearance, Hayes scored her first career goal on her first shot, with Ellori Crosby picking up her first career assist on the play.
Sophomore Grace Stair started in net for the Wildcats and played lights out, making six saves and multiple plays out of the back to protect the net.
High Point outshot the Wildcats 9-6 overall and 6-2 in shots-on-target, but was unable to get past Stair and the backline play of Ella Barnes, Annaliese Mann and Olivia Bestic. Bestic was the only Wildcat besides Stair to play the full 90 minutes.
Sabba Haghgoo led the Panthers with three shots and two shots-on-goal.
