A crafty and advantageous player, FitzGerald is one of the stalwarts of the defensive backfield. He is quick to the ball and difficult to shake off when blanketing receivers downfield. He is also slated to be the Wildcats’ top punt return specialist.

2006: Named second-team NCAA 1-FCS Mid-Major All-America by the Football Gazette... first-team All-Pioneer Football League... tied for 20th in the FCS and ranked third in the PFL with four interceptions... Earned first-team Academic All-PFL... named an FCS Athletic Director’s Association Academic All-Star... ranked third in the PFL with 1.1 pass break-ups a game... also ranked 10th in the conference in tackles by a defensive back... had 12 tackles and a pass break-up against Wingate... posted four stops, and interception and a pass breakup at Lenoir-Rhyne... had three tackles, an interception, and a pass defense vs. Jacksonville... recorded three tackles and an interception against Dayton... had eight tackles, an interception and a pass breakup at Drake. 

2005: Division I-AA Mid-Major All-America Second Team … ranked second in the PFL and ninth nationally in interceptions per game … opened season with a career-high 13 tackles at VMI, including seven solo stops … earned PFL Defensive Player of the Week honors the following game for picking off three passes against Greensboro, plus broke up another pass attempt … brought down seven Crusaders, one for a loss of four yards, in 48-17 victory at Valparaiso … recorded second double-digit tackle game with 12 against Drake, and added an interception return of 26 yards to set up a Wildcat touchdown … tied season high of seven solo tackles at Morehead State … chipped in eight stops and a key interception with six minutes to play in final game of the year, an upset win at Georgetown.

2004: Quickly displayed his talents and saw time in each of the nine games … first career tackle was an assisted stop on third down to force Coastal Carolina to punt … next five tackles at Lenoir-Rhyne and Dayton came on special teams … came up with a big solo stop in the fourth quarter against Morehead State on third down, leading to an Eagle punt — MSU never got the ball back in the 14-10 Wildcat win … recorded a season-high seven tackles, five solo, at San Diego … PFL Honor Roll.

Prep Years: Team captain and All-WPIAL defensive back for coach Art Walker, Jr., at Central Catholic … also second team all-conference selection on WPIAL championship team and state runner-up squad in 2003 … East-West All-Star Game selection … High School Football Hall of Fame Scholar-Athlete Award … lettered twice in basketball and baseball as well … Latin Achievement Award … Athletic Achievement Award … Vice-President of Student Council … National Honor Society … Latin Club.
