"We are thrilled to welcome Anna to the Wildcat family," said head coach Zoe Almquist. Anna's excellent energy, charismatic leadership and dedication to the development of well-rounded and competitive scholar-athletes is going to make an immediate impact on our team."

"I am honored and excited to join the Davidson field hockey program," said Smarrelli. "I am inspired by Zoe's coaching philosophy and vision for the future of the program, and I look forward to working with Zoe and Hannah Fisher in contributing to the growing success of the team. Davidson is such a beautiful campus and community that will allow our student-athletes to grow both academically and athletically. I am grateful to be a part of the Davidson athletics family, and I look forward to being able to help student-athletes reach their fullest potential both on and off the field!"

Smarrelli earned two degrees from Appalachian, including her undergraduate degree in Health and Physical Education (K-12) in 2022. She completed her master's degree in Higher Education in 2024.
