Torreso Named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week

WASHINGTON — After helping Davidson to an Atlantic 10 series victory over Dayton, designated hitter Anthony Torreso has been named A-10 Player of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.
A redshirt junior from Stratford, Conn., Torreso homered in each series game (3 total), drove in eight runs and hit .462 (6-for-13) with a 1.717 OPS against the Flyers. The honor is the first of his career.
"Tony had a wonderful weekend," said Davidson coach Rucker Taylor. "He's played very well lately and has been instrumental in our success."
In the 2-2 week, which also included a non-conference loss at Winthrop, Torreso posted a 1.438 OPS, including a .938 slugging percentage. He also drew three walks and scored six runs, including the series-clincher on Sunday.
With Sunday's rubber game tied 8-8 in the 12th, Torreso led off with a single to right-center, then scored the winning run on Aidan Rice's walk-off RBI-single to left.
Torreso and the Wildcats will visit Duke Tuesday afternoon.
