FAIRFAX, VA.- The Davidson Wildcats opened the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships with a gold medal after John Teachman won the Javelin on Saturday.Â
Teachman threw for 63.34 meters (207' 10") to win the Atlantic 10. This mark was eight feet (2.44 meters) further than the closest throw. He is the first ever Wildcat to win gold in the Javelin in the Atlantic 10 and the first Davidson conference champion in the Javelin since Beaux Jones won the SoCon in 2007. Teachman, who is also the school record holder in the event, set the second farthest mark in school history with this throw. Winning the conference title in just the seventh meet of his outdoor track career, Teachman caps his record setting freshman season with A-10 gold.Â
Jayden Smith advanced to the finals of the 110 meter hurdles, running the fastest time of any qualifier with a season best 13.53. He was over half a second ahead of the nearest competitor. Â
This is the third fastest 110 meter hurdles time ever for Davidson, with Smith also holding the two fastest times. He set both the school and Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championship record at the same meet two years ago with a 13.42 time. Smith will run in the 110 meter hurdle finals at noon on Sunday.
The Wildcats will compete in day 2 of the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships starting at 11 a.m. on Sunday.Â
