
'Cats Wrap Up Day One at A-10 Indoor Championships

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – The Davidson men's track & field team wrapped up the first day of competition at the 2026 A-10 Indoor Championships. Two school records were set and three scholar-athletes advanced to the finals in their respective events.
John Cooper set the indoor school record in the 5000m with a time of 14:20.10 on Friday evening. The previous school record was 14:22.15 by Charlie Siebert in 2023. Cooper finished eighth overall and scored for Davidson at the meet.
The 800m distance featured two strong performances from Eli Roth and Seamus O'Driscoll. Roth posted the fastest time during prelims (1:52.61) and is set to race in the 800m final at approximately 12:55 p.m. on Saturday. Seamus O'Driscoll put down a personal-best time of 1:55.51 as well in his A-10 Indoor Championship debut.
AJ Kurtz posted the third-fastest time across the A-10 in the 60m prelims (6.90). With that time, Kurtz reset the indoor 60m school record which he previously had earlier in the year (6.91). The 60m final is set for Saturday at approximately 12:40 p.m.
Corbin Weltzien also advanced to the finals in the 60m hurdles. Weltzien ran 8.39 and is slated to race in the final at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
In the weight throw, Masson Heiny and Edward Brown produced solid results. Heiny finished eight overall and scored for the Wildcats with a mark of 15.18m. Brown threw a personal-best 15.08m on Friday. His previous PR was 14.06m.
The 'Cats closed out the night with a very solid effort in the DMR. Eli Roth, Connor Rittenhouse, Jack Fischer, and Daniel Cortese ran 9:59.13. This is the third-fastest time in program history in this event. The group placed sixth overall.
