Smith and Cooper Highlight Inaugural Davidson Relays

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson men's track and field team was successful in its first home meet in two decades, winning two events and placing in the top five of six others Saturday at the brand-new Lisa and Jeff Case Track & Field Complex.
 
In his first meet this season, Jayden Smith won the 110m hurdles in 13.87 seconds. The senior competed at the U.S. National Team Trials and the NCAA Championships last year. 
 
John Cooper won the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:41.21. The Wildcats swept the rest of the podium as Daniel Cortese and Alex Thole finished second and third in 8:45.01 and 8:51.92, respectively. 
 
Jack Muldoon finished second in the 800 meters, ending the race in 1:54.33. Liam Maurillo set a personal best with a 1:54.50, good for fourth place. Jack Fischer placed sixth, finishing in 1:54.94. 
 
Eli Roth took third place in the mile with a final time of 4:20.63. John Teachman, who set a new school record a week ago, finished third in the javelin, reaching 58.59 meters. 
 
The men's 4x400 meters relay finished in fifth place overall after running a 3:24.00. 
 
Peter Darst placed fifth in the high jump after jumping 1.93 meters. Evan Pfiel finished fifth in the long jump after logging a personal-best jump of 6.75m.

The Wildcats will travel to High Point next weekend for the annual Vertklasse Meeting April 4-5.
