DAVIDSON - The Davidson college women's tennis team picked up its second win of the week in a 4-0 decision against Longwood Sunday afternoon.Â
The victory pushes the Wildcats record to 10-3 overall.Â
"The team improved from playing Rollins earlier this week, which was a step in the right direction and will prepare us moving into the next match," said head coach Susanne Depka. "We will need to be courageous when uncomfortable now so that we are not afraid come April. I am super proud of how hard the team is competing and taking their mentality to another level even when their opponents don't back down and continue to fight. We have improved so much with this and the team should take confidence from their growth."
The Wildcats were led in doubles action with wins by senior duo Kavya Patel and Daniela Porges (6-1) on court one and Savanna Kollock and Bryson Langford (6-4) on court two to take the team point. Alex Rodehorst and Lilly Dwyer were left unfinished at the three spot but were ahead 4-3.Â
Langford was the first to finish in singles action on court three, dealing her opponent a two-set loss via 6-3, 6-3 win. Her doubles partner Kollock followed suit in the No. 2 position, winning 6-2, 6-3 courtesy of disciplined offense.Â
Rookie Ellie Hammond was the player able to clinch the match for Davidson, topping her competitor 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 4 position to close the day.Â
While Patel was left with no conclusion on court one, she was in the midst of a comeback having dropped the first set 6-4 and battling back to take the second 6-2 and leading 1-0 in the third before the match halted.Â
