DAVIDSON, N.C. – Coming off a resounding season-opening win, the Davidson women's basketball team continues its opening week with a trip to Fort Meyers, Fla., to face Florida Gulf Coast Saturday.

Kyra Bruyndoncx scored a career-high 18 points on 7-of-8 shooting, including four 3-pointers to lead Davidson past William & Mary 71-50 Thursday night for the team's home opener inside Belk Arena. The 'Cats improved to 1-1 on the season with the win.
The Wildcats connected on 55.5 percent (20-36) of their attempts over the final three quarters to conclude the game shooting 50 percent from the field. On the other end of the floor, they limited the Tribe to just 30.4 percent and forced 19 turnovers.
Charlise Dunn added 11 points for the second time in as many contests for the 'Cats, while Edina Strausz hit double figures for the first time in her career with 11 of her own.
SERIES HISTORY
The 'Cats and the Eagles have squared off twice in the all-time series, with both games coming in the past five years. The programs have split the two meetings.
FGCU and Davidson opened the 2024-25 season at Belk Arena with Wildcats coming away with a narrow 57-46 win over the Eagles. FGCU went on to post a 30-4 record and were the eventual ASUN representatives in the NCAA tournament.
STIFLING DEFENSE
Through two games this season, the 'Cats have created havoc with their defense. They have caused an average of 18.5 turnovers per game while averaging 15 steals per game.
In the first quarter of Wednesday's game against William & Mary, the Tribe did not record a field goal until 23 seconds remained in the quarter and held the visiting team 30.4 percent shooting from the field.
POINTS OFF THE BENCH
The Wildcats continued to demonstrate their deep bench against William & Mary. Fourteen players played for the Wildcats in their 21-point victory with 12 recording a basket.
The bench also outscored the Tribe's 25 -10. In two games, the Wildcats have outscored their opponents 53-29 in bench points.
Junior Sylvie Jackson returned to action off the bench for Davidson on Wednesday, returning from an injury she sustained her freshman season. She scored two points in the fourth quarter for the Wildcats.
UP NEXT
Davidson returns to the Tar Heel State to play Appalachian State next Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. in Boone at the Holmes Convocation Center.
