'Cats Continue Conference Action vs. Rhode Island Wednesday

DAVIDSON - Winners of its last five games, the Davidson women's basketball team will look to extend the streak when it hosts Rhode Island for an Atlantic 10 test 7 p.m. Wednesday inside John M. Belk Arena.

SERIES HISTORY...
The Rams are 7-6 all-time when facing the Wildcats dating back to Davidson's inaugural year in the A-10 (2015-16). The Wildcats will look to break a four-game losing streak against URI Wednesday and pick up their first win since a 77-70 triumph Jan. 29, 2020.
A season ago, despite a close first half, Sophie Phillips (17) and Dee Dee Davis (17) combined for 34 points and the Rams hot shooting from distance in the second half helped Rhode Island earn a 61-49 victory Feb. 17, 2023 inside The Ryan Center.
Katie Donovan had a career night as she tallied a team and season-high 16 points to go along with a season-best six rebounds as well as two assists and a steal. Donovan was 6-of-11 form the floor and 4-of-5 from the foul line.
Elle Sutphin (11) and Mallorie Haines (10) joined the rookie in double figures while Millie Prior collected 11 boards with six points.

LAST TIME OUT...
Davidson torched the nets from 3-point range, tying a program-best 14 made 3-pointers, in part of a dominant 94-53 victory over Midwest Atlantic 10 opponent Saint Louis on the road Jan. 5.
In their highest scoring output on the road since a 93-point showing at Winthrop Dec. 30, 1996, the Wildcats extend their winning streak to five while improving to 8-7 overall and a 3-0 in A-10 competition.
For the second consecutive game, the 'Cats had at least five players in double figures in Issy Morgan (20), Katie Donovan (16), Kyra Bruyndoncx (12), Candice Lienafa (12), and Mallorie Haines (11).
Bruyndoncx (4-of-4), Haines (2-of-2), Morgan (1-of-1), Donovan (3-of-4) and Dunn (1-of-2) all combined to pace Davidson to 11 made 3-pointers over the first half alone for a stifling .846 two-quarter percentage.
MORGAN MAKING PLAYS...
Starting point guard, Morgan continues to uphold her rhythm as of late, posting double-figure scoring performances in five of the last six contests, including a two 20-point effort at NC State and Saint Louis.
Additionally, the senior guard has shot well over that time frame with a .528 percentage from the floor over those six contests, highlighted by a perfect 6-of-6 effort against UNC Pembroke and most recently 5-of-8 performance at Saint Louis. Morgan has also proved her efforts from 3-point range making nine threes over the last six contests.
THE LONG SHOT...
After a record-tying effort from distance against the Billkens, the Wildcats jumped from ranking 103 in all of NCAA Division I in 3-point percentage to now sitting at 47 with a .386 average.
Haines, (21), Bruyndoncx (20) and Dunn (20) have all hit the 20 made 3-pointers plateau. Haines leads the charge with a .429 average followed by Bruyndoncx (.364) and then Dunn (.357).
CONFERENCE RESUME...
The Wildcats have put up impressive numbers over three conference games so far headlined by outscoring its league competitors by a +64 margin (248-184).
As a team, Davidson is averaging 82.7 points and 42.3 rebounds per game while shooting .450 from the field, .405 from 3-point range and .719 at the foul line in conference games. The Wildcats have also averaged an impressive 16.3 assists, 7.3 steals and 3.6 blocks over those three contests.
Pacing the scoring for the 'Cats in conference play is Donovan (17.0), Dunn (13.3), Morgan (12.3) Lienafa (12.0) and Bruyndoncx (11.7). Additionally all five double-figure scorers have made over 40 percent of their shot attempts in Lienafa (.600), Bruyndoncx (.550), Morgan (.480), Donovan (.463) and Dunn (.424).
Lastly, Donovan (6-of-11), Bruyndoncx (7-of-12) and Haines (6-of-13) have shot the ball well from 3-point range in A-10 action.
BIG MARGINS...
The Wildcats have defeated four of their last five opponents by a double-digit margin, including a season second best of 41-point win over Saint Louis. All told, the 'Cats have enjoyed six total double-figure victories this season with a season-best +42 win versus Presbyterian.
During its current five-game winning stint, Davidson enters the weekend holding a +122 scoring margin against its opponent.

Harsimran "Honey" Kaur paces the Rams on both ends of the court with a team-high of 12.9 points and 7.1 rebounds per game to go along with a .464 field goal percentage, .435 3-point percentage and .750 free throw percentage.
