RICHMOND, Va. – Reed Bailey, the league's leading scorer, had another career game with 32 points and Bobby Durkin hit a pair of clutch 3-pointers down the stretch as Davidson rallied and then held off Richmond, 72-66, Saturday evening inside the Robins Center.
The Wildcats, who shot 54 percent after intermission, end a three-game slide, improving to 13-7 overall and 3-4 in Atlantic 10 action.
Bailey, who hit the 30-point plateau for the second time in the last week, finished 11-of-17 from the floor, including a perfect 4-for-4 from downtown.
After the Spiders pushed the margin to as many as nine early in the second half, Davidson responded with a 19-9 stretch capped by a Joe Hurlburt dunk to go back in front, 50-51.
With the game deadlocked 57-57, the 'Cats got a layup from Bailey and back-to-back treys from Durkin in three consecutive trips to take the lead for good.
Durkin scored all 18 points of his points in the second half, while grabbing a team-high 10 rebounds for his second double-double this season. Connor Kochera would also score in double figures with 11 points.
Despite Davidson shooting just 35 percent in the first half, Bailey kept the 'Cats within reach scoring 16 of their first 18 points before going to the break down just three, 31-28.
Richmond (7-13, 2-5 A-10) had a chance to tie or retake the lead with 24 seconds to go, but Zach Laput came up with a steal to all but secure the win.
Mike Walz led the way for the Spiders with 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting.
In addition to knocking down 10 3-pointers, Davidson finished the evening with a season-low five turnovers.
