DAVIDSON, N.C. – Despite a game-high 25 points from Reed Bailey, Davidson fell to Saint Joseph's, 78-61, Tuesday evening inside John M. Belk Arena.
The setback was the first of the season for the Wildcats on Bob McKillop Court as they fall to 12-7 overall and 2-4 in Atlantic 10 Conference play.
The Hawks, who shot 50.8 percent, including 11-of-27 from long range, got double figures from Xzayvier Brown (20), Erik Reynolds III (17), Rasheer Fleming (12) and Justice Ajogbor (10).
In addition to starting 7-of-9 from the floor, Saint Joseph's (12-7, 3-3 A-10) raced out to a 17-4 lead, stretching it to as many as 17 in the opening 20 minutes.
Davidson, which played a majority of the half with Bailey, the league's leading scorer, on the bench in foul trouble, made it 37-27 before the Hawks stretched the margin back to 16 at the half.
After the 'Cats used a 10-2 spurt to get within 45-37 early in the second, the Hawks answered again to put the game out of reach.
Zach Laput added 10 points for the Wildcats, who finished the night at just 40.6 percent with only four made 3-pointers.
