‘Cats Shake Slow Start, Cruise Past La Salle, 78-61

DAVIDSON – In addition to a 34-8 run spanning the second and third quarters, Davidson placed six players in double figures as the Wildcats cruised past La Salle, 78-61, in Atlantic 10 women's basketball Thursday evening inside Belk Arena.
The win was the fourth straight for the 'Cats, who improve to 7-7 overall and 2-0 in conference play as well as an undefeated 6-0 inside Belk Arena.
Freshman Kyra Bruyndoncx led the way for Davidson with a season-high 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Charlise Dunn (14), Issy Morgan (13), Candice Lienafa (12), Mallorie Haines (11) and Katie Donovan (10) also cracked the 10-point plateau for the Wildcats. This marks the first time since Nov. 20, 2019 vs. Western Carolina, that the 'Cats had six double-figure scorers.
The Explorers scored eight unanswered late in the first as part of a 10-4 spurt to go up, 17-13.
After La Salle (7-9, 1-2 A-10) built a 24-16 advantage midway through the second, Davidson started to find its rhythm closing the half on a 17-4 run highlighted by two treys each from Bruyndoncx and Haines to take 33-28 lead at the break.
The 'Cats carried their momentum into the second half, opening on a 19-4 streak, pushing the margin to 20 and all but putting the game out of reach.
Davidson forced 21 miscues, turning them into 19 points at the other end. In addition, it held a 37-29 advantage on the glass, including 16 offensive rebounds resulting in a season-high 23 second-chance points.
Joan Quinn led the Explorers with 14 points, while Ashleigh Connor added 12 and eight rebounds.
