'Cats Win Second Straight; Defeat Saint Joseph's 2-0 On the Road

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – For the second consecutive game, the Davidson College men's soccer team left the pitch victorious. This time, it was a 2-0 victory on the road, in the first conference game of the season over Saint Joseph's.
After a mild-mannered first half where both teams combined for just eight total shots, the Wildcats took control in the final 45.
Less than four minutes after the intermission, Davidson was awarded a free kick in the middle of the Hawk's defensive zone. Junior striker Denis Krioutchenkov lasered his service into the SJU goalie box where junior Alonzo Clarke flew in and buried a header shot to put the 'Cats up, 1-0.
In the 72nd minute, Saint Joseph's was given a red card after a hard foul on Clarke then, ten minutes later another red card was shown to the Hawks, leaving them down two players.
Davidson took advantage on a counterattack in the 86th minute. The Wildcat back line poked the ball away from the home team, and Krioutchenkov raced down the middle of the field. He dribbled it all the way down to just outside of the SJU goalie box before sending a pass over to Nico Quanbeck. The sophomore midfielder made one defender miss and beat the keeper for his second goal in as many games to put the 'Cats up for good.
It was Krioutchenkov's first career multi-assist game, and goalkeeper Lucas Beltran made a pair of key saves in the 74th and 75th minute to give him his third career shutout.
