DAVIDSON — A first-set setback proved to be just momentary Saturday afternoon when the Davidson volleyball team rallied and closed the regular season with a 3-1 win over Rhode Island in Belk Arena.

With the Senior Day victory, the Wildcats improved to 15-14 overall and 11-7 in Atlantic 10 Conference play and locked up the No. 4 seed for the league's postseason tournament, which begins next week. Additionally, paired with Friday's 3-1 win over the Rams, they completed their fourth A-10 weekend sweep of the season (also Saint Louis, Duquesne, Fordham).

Libero Jordan Hummel had a career-high seven aces to go with 18 digs and 10 assists, while Emma Slusser (14 kills), Meile Songaila (13) and Jackie Bardin (11) had double-digit kills on a day the Wildcats hit .341. Kinsey Smith had 23 assists and 10 digs, while Xuan Nguyen added 22 assists.

After the Rams edged out a 25-23 win in the first set, Davidson steered the match in its direction in the second. The Wildcats built a 12-2 lead, hit .538 and rolled to a 25-12 victory.

Davidson earned a 25-20 win in the third, ultimately reeling off six straight points, including three Hummel aces, after an 18-all tie, to reach match point before Melanie Tilles' kill closed out the 25-20 win.

It was more Davidson domination in the fourth, as the Wildcats opened up a 14-4 lead, hit .382 and wrapped up a 25-13 win with back-to-back Hummel aces.
Prior to the match, the Wildcats honored the class of 2025: Nguyen, Kayla Davis and Isabel Decker.

Rhode Island (9-22, 4-14) was held to a .157 hitting percentage, despite hitting .417 in the first set.
