‘Cats Continue Trend, Blank Mason to Open A-10 Play

FAIRFAX, Va. – In addition to a netting a goal in each half, Davidson extended its unbeaten streak with its third straight clean sheet, a 2-0 blanking of George Mason, in both teams' Atlantic 10 men's soccer opener Saturday evening.
Off to their best start since the 2017 campaign, the Wildcats improve to 4-0-1 overall, while the Patriots fall to 1-3-2 and 0-1-0.
The 'Cats wasted little time grabbing the early advantage with a goal from Maddux Reece in the 11th minute. The senior's second career strike came via a header following a Denis Krioutchenkov corner kick that was played in and across off the heads of Alonzo Clarke and Eamon Moylan.
With just under 17 minutes to play, the 'Cats all but put the game out of reach when freshman Noah Louzan put away a low left-footed rip, which was set up by a Clarke through ball, his second assist of the night.
Davidson finished with a 10-9 edge in shots to go along with a commanding 11-2 margin corner kicks.
Along with Lou Liedtka's third straight shutout and fourth of 2023, the Wildcats' back line has held their opponents scoreless over the last 299 minutes of play.
