CHICAGO — Alli Jacobson's goal and a stifling defense helped the Davidson women's soccer team earn a 1-0 Atlantic 10 Conference victory Thursday night over Loyola Chicago.
The Wildcats improved to 10-2-1 overall and 3-2 in the A-10 with the win over the league's newest team. Loyola, which joined the A-10 this year, won the last four Missouri Valley Conference titles and played in the last four NCAA Tournaments.
"We stuck it out, defended well," said coach Adam Denton. "It's a tough team, a tough place to play. I'm really pleased that we grinded it out on the road and got a valuable three points. The second half, we were under a lot of pressure. We dealt with the pressure reasonably well."
Jacobson's goal, her second of the year, came in the 44th minute after Brooke Ditcham played a long ball to her. Jacobson broke from the defense, controlled the ball and finished into the lower left part of the net to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead at the break.
"Great pass from Ditcham, great run from Alli and a smart finish," said Denton.
Loyola held a 9-1 advantage in shots and led 8-0 in corners. Keeper Mary Grace Bunch saved the Ramblers' one shot on goal.
