Perez Gongora Clinches 4-3 Win for Wildcats

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson men's tennis team captured its fourth win of the 2022 season on Friday afternoon, coming back from an early 1-0 deficit to defeat the DePaul Blue Demons, 4-3.
"Today was an awesome comeback," said Head Coach Drew Barrett. "We had great energy, despite losing the doubles point, and I'm really excited that Juan was able to clinch for us against a veteran player. This was a great team effort today."
After dropping the doubles point, freshman Udday Singh settled the score for Davidson, winning 6-0, 6-2 from court three. While the Blue Demons went ahead 2-1 with a win at court one, seniors Brooks Green and Sam Kavarana won back-to-back matches from courts five and six, respectively. Green earned a 6-3, 6-4 decision while Kavarana won 6-1, 6-4 to allow the 'Cats to go ahead 3-2.
The Wildcats finally clinched the victory after freshman Juan Camilo Perez Gongora earned a thrilling, two-set overtime win. The rookie won his first set 6-4, while sealing the deal for Davidson with a 7-6 (5-0) victory in the second.
The 'Cats will return to action next Saturday, March 12 for a 10 a.m. match against The Citadel.
