DAVIDSON, N.C. -- The Davidson men's tennis team moved to 5-5 on the 2022 season on Saturday, defeating The Citadel 6-1 in the first half of a doubleheader slate, before falling 4-3 to NC A&T later in the afternoon.
The Wildcats got off to a strong start against the Bulldogs, taking the doubles point thanks to wins at courts two and three. Nico Pinzon and Maxwell Kachkarov picked up a 6-3 win at No. 2 while William Clark and Juan Camilo Perez Gongora also won 6-3 at court three, allowing Davidson the early 1-0 lead.
From the singles courts, freshman Udday Singh clinched the victory on court two, defeating The Citadel's Bencedic 6-4, 6-4. Seniors Brooks Green and Sam Kavarana each earned singles wins right away from courts three and four, respectively, as Green took a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3 while Kavarana earned a quick 6-1, 6-0 decision. With two more two-set wins from Clark and Pinzon from slot five and six, Davidson was able to run away with its fifth win of the season.
On the backend of the doubleheader, the Wildcats continued their strong play and once again won the doubles point. This time, Alejandro Solares and Singh earned a tiebreaker win at court two combined with a 6-3 win from Perez Gongora and Clark on court three to push the 'Cats back up to a 1-0 advantage.
The A&T Bulldogs bounced back from there, however, winning four singles matches to secure the win despite solid singles play from Kachkarov and Perez Gongora.
Davidson will return to action for a midweek matchup on Tuesday, March 15. The 'Cats will take on James Madison at home at 3 p.m.
