Smith and ‘Cats Blank George Mason for first A-10 Win

FAIRFAX, Va. – Davidson got an early goal from Lucas Hauth and Connor Smith added two more in the second half as the 'Cats cruised to a 3-0 victory over George Mason in Atlantic 10 men's soccer action Saturday afternoon.
With their first league win, the Wildcats improve to 2-3-2 overall and 1-1-2 in the conference, while Mason falls 0-4-3 and 0-1-3.
Davidson, which entered without a first-half goal this spring, grabbed the lead at the 3:29 mark when Hauth tapped in a Henry Howell corner kick. Trey Gardiner was also credited an assist on the junior's fourth goal of the season.
Clinging to a 1-0 lead midway through the final stanza, Smith and the 'Cats put the game out of reach when the freshman forward found the back of the net in the 70th and 85th minutes.
In addition to picking up his first shutout in a Wildcat uniform, Giacomo Piccardo stopped a game-high 8 shots.
