GREENVILLE, N.C.  — Davidson was unable to slow down a red-hot East Carolina women's tennis team as it fell 5-2 on the road Saturday afternoon at the River Birch Tennis Complex. The Pirates continued their record setting winning streak, pushing it to 18 in a row with the win.

The Wildcats (9-8) forced three third sets, which were played as a super tie-breaker and won two of them, but the match had already been decided prior to the start of the super tie-breakers.

"We came very close in many spots against a high-quality team," said head coach Susanne Depka. "We definitely made improvements today and will work hard to get one degree better for tomorrow's match vs. Richmond."

Things started off on the day with the Pirates taking wins of 6-0 and 6-2 at No. 1 and 2 doubles.

The two singles victories for the 'Cats came from Samantha Armas and Elizabeth Truluck at No. 4 and 5 positions. Armas played one of the three super tie-breakers and scored a 10-6 win to take the match at 6-4, 5-7, 1-0. The win was her 12th of the season and ninth at the No. 4 spot.

Truluck picked up her team-leading 13th win in 17 matches by scoring a 10-2 decision in the super tie-breaker for a 3-6, 6-0, 1-0 decision. The freshman has won eight of her last 10 matches.

The other super tie-breaker was played by senior Megan Scholvinck at No. 1, where she lost 10-3 in very close battle all match vs. the Pirates top singles player (5-7, 6-4, 0-1).

Davidson, playing its third match of the week, wraps up the weekend with a 1 p.m. Sunday match vs. Richmond at home.
