DELAND, Fla. — Playing their second match in as many days, the Davidson women's tennis team made it six in a row in the win column when Anna Catharine Feaster clinched the winning point for a 4-2 victory over Coastal Carolina Tuesday afternoon in a neutral site match on the campus of Stetson.
The Wildcats improved to 9-2 on the season, winning at least six straight for the second time in the past three years. They faced the Chanticleers (7-5) for the first time since 1992, moving to 4-1 in the all-time series.
"The team did a terrific job today against a tough opponent and some tough conditions," said head coach Susanne Depka. "They continued to work on achieving their goal as a team, which at times was difficult to execute today. They worked through some battles with themselves, but in the end improved throughout the match which helped them persevere."
Up 3-2 in the team score, the senior Feaster finished off the team win with her 49th career triumph and sixth of the season by netting a 6-3, 7-5 decision at No. 1.
Alexandra Abele won her 10th consecutive singles match by scoring a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3, pushing her record to a team-best 10-1 on the season.
Winning her third match in a row was Samantha Armas at No. 6, giving up just three games in 6-2, 6-1 win.
In doubles action, the Wildcats opened the match by claiming the team point behind wins from their No. 1 and 3 teams. The duo of Feaster and Scholvinck won their second straight with a 7-5 triumph, and freshman Alyssa Hahn and Armas teamed up for the first time this year to score a 6-2 victory at No. 3.
Davidson returns home for its second Atlantic 10 match, hosting Saint Joseph's Sunday, March 11, at 1 p.m.
