DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson women's tennis team earned its third clean sweep of the season by scoring a 7-0 win at home against UNC Wilmington Sunday afternoon inside the Knobloch Tennis Center.
The Wildcats improved to 4-2 on the season and are currently 4-1 on their season-long eight-match homestand.
Four of the six singles players kept their winning streaks alive, led by Alexandra Abele who won her fifth straight with a 6-2, 6-3 decision at No. 3. She is 5-1 on the year.
Freshman Lindsay Song continued to shine in her first season with a strong 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5 to remain perfect at 4-0. Ava Todd moved to 3-1 on the year with her third consecutive win, a 6-0, 7-6(2) decision at No. 6.
Davidson's top two singles players, Anna Catharine Feaster and Megan Scholvinck, got back on the winning track after scoring wins of 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 and 7-6(4), 6-4.
Rounding the singles winners was Gabrielle Centenari, who regrouped after falling in her first set, 6-3, to win a 7-5 second-set decision and then netted a 10-8 super tie-breaker victory to determine the match. It was her second win in a row, moving her to 4-2 on the season.
In doubles action, the team of Ally Sexton and Song won their fifth match in a row with a 6-2 win at No. 2, while Feaster and Abele sealed up the doubles team point on a 6-4 victory at No. 3.
Davidson has a busy week coming up, taking on USC-Upstate (Feb. 21), Elon (Feb. 24) and Wingate (Feb. 25) all at home.
