DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson started a busy week off with another impressive 7-0 win by downing USC-Upstate Wednesday inside the Knobloch Tennis Center in women's tennis.
The Wildcats (5-2) are currently 5-1 on their season-long eight-match homestand and recorded their fourth shutout of the season. They will also play Elon and Wingate to close out the homestand this weekend.
"The team did a great job working through some adversity," said head coach Susanne Depka. "They stayed focused on the process and our team goals. We got better tonight and look to carry it over to a busy weekend for us."
Davidson won the doubles point for the fifth time this year, taking wins at No. 2 and 3 positions. Megan Scholvinck and Samantha Armas captured a 6-4 win, the duos first together as a team. Anna Catharine Feaster and Alexandra Abele sealed it up with a 6-2 win at No. 3 for their second win a row.
The winning continued as the 'Cats took all seven singles positions, pushing their team record to 30-12 in singles. Abele won her sixth straight with a 6-2, 7-6 decision at No. 3 for a 6-1 overall record. The winning streak is two away from tying last year's career-best.
Lindsay Song gave up just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at No. 5, the first-year's fifth consecutive win.
Scoring her fifth win of the year, and third straight, was Gabrielle Centenari (6-3, 6-1) at No. 4, while Armas evened her record to 3-3 on the season after a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 6.
Giving the Wildcats their final two team points was Feaster, who moved to 4-2 on the season with her 47th career win after a 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1, and Scholvinck. The junior gave just one game in her match and rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 2 to move to 4-3 on the year.
Davidson takes on Elon (Feb. 24) and Wingate (Feb. 25) at home this weekend.
