DAYTON, Ohio — Playing Saint Louis for first time in program history, Davidson came up short in a tightly contested match, 5-2, Sunday morning in Atlantic 10 women's tennis at the Five Seasons Sports Club in Dayton, Ohio.
The Wildcats went 1-1 on their trip to Ohio as they saw their record fall to 12-4 overall and 5-2 in league matches. The Billikens moved to 12-7 on the season and 2-3 in A-10 play.
All three doubles matches went back and forth until SLU grabbed the team point with wins at No. 1 and 3 by the scores of 7-5. The pair of Ally Sexton and Anna Catharine Feaster gave Davidson its third doubles team with 10 wins by netting a 6-4 triumph at No. 2, moving their win streak to three straight. They moved to 5-2 in league play.
Scoring team points for the 'Cats was Ava Todd and Samantha Armas at No. 5 and 6 positions. Todd pulled out a 7-5, 2-6, 6-2 win to remain unbeaten in A-10 matches at 6-0, while pushing her win streak to a season-high seven.
Armas hit the 10-win mark on the year with a three-set victory as well, coming back from dropping the first set 6-4 to cruise to 6-2 and 6-1 wins in the next two sets. The freshman is now 10-4 overall and 4-1 in league play.
Saint Louis though captured wins at the other four singles positions to seal up the team victory. Davidson though battled to the end in those defeats. Feaster dropped a pair of tie-breakers, 7-2 and 7-4, at No. 2, while Alexandra Abele fell just short in a 7-5, 4-6, 7-6(4) battle at No. 4.
Megan Scholvinck dropped her first A-10 match at No. 1 with a 6-4, 6-3 defeat, while Gabrielle Centenari fell 6-2, 6-2.
Davidson wraps up a three-match road trip with a visit to UNCG Wednesday, April 5.
