CHARLESTON, S.C.  —  Davidson saw its season-high five-match winning streak snapped Friday morning as it dropped a close 4-3 neutral site Atlantic 10 match to Massachusetts in women's tennis action.

The Wildcats fell for the first time in league play (3-1), while their overall record dropped to 10-3. UMass improved to 7-6 overall and 2-0 in A-10 matches. In addition, the freshmen duo of Alexandra Abele and Samantha Armas had their season best singles win streaks halted.

Abele, who has won the league's rookie of the week honor five times, fell 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 stopping a team-best eight-match win streak. Armas, who won the rookie award, Jan. 24, had a five-match win streak come to an end after a 6-4, 6-2 setback at No. 6.

The match came down to the doubles point, with the Minutewomen capturing wins of 7-5 and 6-2 at No. 2 and 3 positions, respectively. The duo of Ava Todd and Abele dropped their first match of the season after rattling off 11 straight wins.

Armas and Megan Scholvinck did win their third in a row at No. 1 doubles for Davidson, securing a 6-4 victory to improve to 8-2 overall and 3-0 in league matches.

Scholvinck was one of three 'Cats to go on and pick up a singles win on the day. The sophomore earned a 6-3, 6-4 decision at No. 2 for her second win in a row to reach the double-digit mark at 10-3 on the season and remained unbeaten in league matches at 4-0.

Todd also moved to a perfect 4-0 in A-10 matches after a three-set win at No. 5 singles, taking a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 decision. The junior is 9-4 now on the season and has won her past five straight matches.

Giving the Wildcats their final team point was Anna Catharine Feaster at No. 1 with a strong 6-0, 6-2 victory for her third consecutive win and ninth overall on the year. She is 7-4 at the top spot.
