Several Win Streaks Stay Intact in 7-0 Win for Davidson

DAVIDSON, N.C.  — The Davidson women's tennis team kept several team and individual win streaks alive when they earned a 7-0 win at home Sunday afternoon against Saint Joseph's in Atlantic 10 play inside the Knobloch Tennis Center.

The Wildcats (10-2, 3-0 A-10) continued their school-record home winning streak by pushing it to 15 in a row dating back to last season. The previous best was 13 straight set in 2007. In addition, they won their season-high fifth consecutive match to reach the 10-win mark on the season for the third straight year.

Individually, four players kept their own singles win streaks intact led by freshman Alexandra Abele's eighth win in a row after an impressive 6-1, 6-2 decision at No. 5. The first-year player, who has been named A-10 Rookie of the Week four times, is now 11-1 on the season and 3-0 in A-10 matches.

Abele also teamed up with Ava Todd at No. 3 doubles and the duo remained perfect on the season at 11-0 with a 6-2 victory. The 'Cats also got doubles wins from Samantha Armas and Megan Scholvinck at No. 1 (6-0) and Anna Catharine Feaster and Ally Sexton at No. 2 (6-2). Both doubles teams won their seventh matches, respectively.

Todd scored a 6-0, 6-2 singles win at No. 5 to win her fourth straight and Armas pushed her season-high win streak to five straight after a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 6.

At No. 1, Feaster tallied a 6-0, 6-2 win to run her season record to 8-4, having won her past two matches, and Scholvinck earned her ninth win in 12 matches this year after winning by the same score at No. 2.

Closing out the winning afternoon was Gabrielle Centenari, who allowed just one goal in a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3.

Davidson plays a neutral site match next against UMass in Charleston, S.C., this coming Friday, March 17.
