DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson began its Atlantic 10 season with yet another win, as it took a 4-2 decision at home against George Washington Sunday afternoon to wrap up a three-match homestand in women's tennis action.
The Wildcats remained perfect on the season at 3-0 and pushed their win steak dating back to last year to seven in a row in league matches. In addition, they won their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which is the longest streak since a 13-match streak during the 2007 season. Davidson also moved to 5-0 all-time vs. GW.
The day started out well for Davidson as it nailed down 6-2 and 6-1 wins in doubles action at No. 2 and 3 positions, respectively, to grab the early lead. The team of Anna Catharine Feaster and Ally Sexton at No. 2 won their second in a row, while Ava Todd and Alexandra Abele moved to 3-0 at the No. 3 spot.
GW (1-1, 0-1 A-10) would get wins at No. 1 and 3 singles slots, but Davidson sealed the team win by capturing victories at No. 2, 4 and 5. The trio of Scholvinck (6-4, 6-4), Abele (6-3, 6-1) and Todd (6-3, 6-1) all won in straight sets and remained perfect at 3-0 on the season at those three positions.
Seeing her five-match win streak dating back to last season come to an end was Feaster at No. 1, who took the first set, 6-1, but came up just short in the next two at 6-4 and 6-4.
Gabrielle Centenari also battled to a third set in her match at No. 3, falling short 2-6, 6-2, 7-5.
Davidson plays its first road match with a first-time matchup at Tennessee next Friday, Feb. 3, at 6 p.m.
