DAVIDSON, N.C. – With the school's all-time leading scorer and two-time NBA MVP in attendance, Jack Gibbs scored 21 of his game-high 32 points in the second half to lead Davidson past Duquesne, 74-60, in front of a sold-out Belk Arena Tuesday evening.
At halftime, the student section was named "Section 30" in honor of Stephen Curry.
Gibbs, a senior from Westerville, Ohio, finished 13-of-22 from the floor en route to his fourth 30-point outing of the season. A year ago, Gibbs scored 41 points with Curry in the stands at cross-county rival Charlotte.
Jon Axel Gudmundsson added 12 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals, while Will Magarity (11) and KiShawn Pritchett (10) also finished in double figures for the 'Cats.
In addition to forcing 12 turnovers and holding Duquesne (9-12. 2-6 A-10) to just 22.2 percent in the first half, the Wildcats raced out to a 22-5 advantage before going to the break up, 39-16.
Emile Blackman paced the Dukes with 16 points.
Trailing 43-23, Duquesne used a 20-6 run to cut the deficit to 49-43 with just under 10 minutes to play. That's as close as the Dukes would get as Davidson (10-8, 3-4 A-10) stretched the margin back to double-digits to put the game out of reach.
The Wildcats, who shot 44.8 percent from the floor, held a 40-38 edge on the glass.
Up Next
Davidson will play its next two on the road beginning with a 12 p.m. tip at Fordham on Saturday.
