DAVIDSON, N.C.  — In their final home match of the season, Davidson continued its impressive run by winning its 10th straight after a 5-1 Atlantic 10 victory on Senior Day against Dayton Friday afternoon on the Davidson Tennis Courts in women's tennis.
Â
The Wildcats, who honored senior Elaina Cummer prior to the match, finished perfect in league play at 6-0 and ran their overall record to 13-2. The win streak is the longest
since a 12-match stretch during the 2005 campaign.
Â
"It was a great day for the 'Cats," said head coach Sara Anundsen! "We got to celebrate Laina and all of her amazing accomplishments. She is a class act who has been an incredible teammate and leader for this program. It was an impressive win today as well and a nice way to end our league schedule. We are going to enjoy it over the next few days as we are off for the holiday before we get back on the court next week to prepare for a road trip to JMU."
Â
Cummer helped the Wildcats grab a 1-0 lead over the Flyers (11-8, 2-3 A-10) by scoring a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles with Gabrielle Centenari. It was the senior's 39th career doubles victory to go along with her 37 career singles wins.
Â
The top team of Anna Catharine Feaster and Ally Sexton sealed up the team point for the 'Cats by rolling to their 10th consecutive victory in a 6-0 decision. The duo is 11-1 on the year and went 6-0 in A-10 matches. The win streak matches Kelsey Linville and Maggie Patterson's stretch they had in 2005 and is the longest dating back to 1995.
Â
In singles action, four Wildcats kept their personal winning streaks going by scoring straight set wins to give Davidson its 10th victory in a row. Jenna Brunner, at No. 6, tied her career best with her fifth straight win behind a 6-3, 6-0 decision to move her record to 5-0.
Â
Feaster netted her ninth win of the season at the No. 1 with a 6-3, 6-3 victory, while Ava Todd and Centenari each pushed their win streaks to two in a row. Todd picked up her team-best 11th win at No. 2 by giving up just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 decision and the freshman Centenari scored her ninth win in 13 matches after a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 3.
Â
Davidson will now embark on a five-match road trip to finish out the regular season, starting first with matches against Towson and James Madison in Harrisonburg, Va., April 2 & 3.
