KANSAS CITY, Mo. – No. 3/3 Kansas used a lengthy second-half run to break open a tied contest and defeat Davidson, 89-71, Saturday evening in the Jayhawk Shootout at the Sprint Center.
Deadlocked 58-58 with 11:34 to play, Kansas (10-1) went on a 23-5 streak and eventually stretched the margin to as many as 22.
The Jayhawks' game-changing run came shortly after the Wildcats used consecutive 3-pointers from Will Magarity and Peyton Aldridge, to go up 49-44 early in the second half.
Aldridge led three Davidson (5-4) players in double figures with 22 points on 7-of-14 shooting, including five of his club's 10 3-pointers. Jack Gibbs added 12 points to go along with 7 rebounds and 6 assists, while Nathan Ekwu scored a season-high 10 off the bench.
Both Aldridge and Ekwu led the Wildcats with 8 rebounds.
Kansas, which scored 48 points in the paint and finished with 23 second-chance points, was led by Josh Jackson and Frank Mason III with 18 points each.
With the Jayhawks leading 29-17, the Wildcats responded with a 21-8 spurt capped off by Aldridge's third triple of the first half, to go up, 38-37. Ekwu, who scored 8 points off the bench in the period, nailed a hook shot just before the buzzer to give Davidson a 43-42 lead at the break.
Davidson shot 42.9 percent from the floor, while Kansas finished at 48.5 percent and held a 43-34 margin on the glass.
The contest featured 16 lead changes and 8 ties.

Davidson will begin a three-game homestand Wednesday with a 7 p.m. tip against Jacksonville inside Belk Arena.
