CANCUN, MEXICO — Playing the first of two games in Cancun, Mexico, over its Thanksgiving break, Davidson fell to Toledo 76-41 on Thanksgiving Day inside the Convention Center at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya at the Cancun Challenge.
The Wildcats will wrap up the Cancun Challenge tomorrow, Nov. 25, against first-time opponent Idaho State at 4 p.m.
Davidson started the game getting a pair of free throws from Mackenize Latt on its first possession for a 2-0 lead, but had to play catch up the rest of the game.
Toledo (4-0) went on to outscore the 'Cats 21-3 the remainder of the first quarter for a 21-5 advantage and would lead by as many as 45 points in taking the win.
Latt paced the 'Cats (0-5) with a game-high 15 points, and added five rebounds and a block. The double-digit scoring game was the juniors' third of the season and 48th of her career.
Freshman Andrea Robinson crashed the glass for a game and season-high 12 rebounds and scored four points. The rebound total was a team season high this year as well. Fellow freshman Ally Welling had season highs of eight rebounds and five points.
Justine Lyon and Melanie Ransom came off the bench for six points each, with Ransom draining both of Davidson's three-pointers.
The Rockets put two players in double figures, led by Mikaela Boyd's and Jay Bravo-Harriott's 11 points each. Boyd also added seven rebounds to tie Janice Monakana for team high honors.
Toledo's bench scored 41 of its 76 points, while the Rockets as team took advantage of Davidson's 24 turnovers, scoring 26 points off those miscues.
Davidson kept its streak alive of out-rebounding the opposition on the offensive end, making it five straight games by hauling in 13 rebounds and finished with a game-high 41 overall. It was the second game in a row with a 40-board effort by the team.
A layup by Rachel Piles with 6:57 in the second quarter got Davidson within 14 (23-9), but a triple by the Rockets three minutes later would make it 29-11. Justine Lyon hit a layup on an and-one play to make it 30-15 before the Wildcats went into the break down 32-15.
Davidson was able to find its offense in the final quarter, scoring a season-high 21 points, shooting 9-of-19 from the field.
